For me, the best tutoring is that which delivers two main results: a robust subject knowledge and an enhanced ability to use that knowledge successfully. In other words, I believe that provision of raw information alone is insufficient to equip someone to respond to questions creatively and with distinction. For that reason, I work to ensure that tutees also gain a deep and functional understanding of the subject matter and that, through being challenged to think in new ways, they hone their critical thinking skills. Underpinning my practice in that regard is a wealth of knowledge and experience: I have a PhD in English Literature (University of Edinburgh); I have taught English and Scottish texts up to undergraduate level; and I have also worked as a writing advisor for postgraduate students. Uniting all of that, my overarching aim as a tutor is to enable individuals to both realise their full potential and gain confidence in their abilities.
